Italian Cream Soda

This recipe is a take on one of my favorite drinks I used to get from our local mall, when mall’s were relevant, and half of the stores weren’t vacant as they are today. There used to be this great little coffee shop called Beanarella’s that I about 90% of the time got an Italian Soda from. This isn’t a recipe that is to impress people or something that involves a lot of skill, but merely a great refreshing way to spice up a normal pop (or soda for probably most of the world),  and is really fun to make with the kiddos! Just make sure whatever pop you use is caffeine free if kids are helping!

Ingredients

  • 2 cans of Squirt (or any type of white pop)
  • Grenadine (cherry juice)
  • Milk (I used 2%)
  • Maraschino Cherries for garnish

Instructions

1

Set 4 large glasses out and fill with ice. Pour half way up the side of the glass with the Squirt, and add about 2 tsp. of grenadine. Slowly pour the milk on the back of a spoon on top of the Squirt until the glass is about full. Top with a maraschino cherry and paper straw! They look absolutely beautiful before you mix them! Be sure to mix them within the first few minutes of making them (if you wait too long to mix, the milk will start to curdle).

Notes

I use decorate paper straws. They might be more expensive than plastic straws, but our ocean could do with less plastic, and the paper straws are recycle and biodegradable friendly! This is also a great recipe to make with kids!
